Elton's PhD is a PhD by Publication. This means that in place of a dissertation, you write four papers accepted for publication at reputable journals, an in-depth summary of your research, and complete a viva voce (oral examination). All at your own pace.

This approach, which is common in Europe, has three major advantages: freedom, pace, and speed. Without classes to attend or the limitations of departments, you are free to choose the precise research topic that interests you and that you think is important. You can move at your own pace to research, write, and submit your papers. Depending on your pace, in as few as 2 years, you can graduate with a PhD and 4 citations—an achievement that takes many other scholars 4-10 years.

PHASE 1 (18-48 Months)

Research & Publication

Work directly with experienced Elton advisors and professors, as well as subject matter experts in your field, to develop, conduct, and publish your research. You'll receive comprehensive support including:

  • Professional editing and review services for manuscript preparation

PHASE 2(6-12 Months)

Completion & Defense

Once your 4+ peer-reviewed papers are accepted for publication, you'll dual-enroll in one of our partner universities to complete your doctorate. During this phase:

  • You'll develop an in-depth explication of your research contributions
  • Complete your viva voce (oral defense) with confidence
  • Graduate with a PhD issued by Elton and the partner university your PhD.
