Every Elton master's candidate works one-on-one with an expert professor from day one. You choose your concentration — or design your own — and your curriculum, pace, and milestones take shape around your goals, not a semester calendar.

Areas of Concentration

Business Administration, Software & AI, and Cybersecurity build on Elton's industry-recognized certificate curriculum. The Humanities and Social & Environmental Sciences draw on Elton's graduate faculty in those fields. Every concentration is designed one-on-one with your advisor and culminates in a capstone project that proves your mastery.

Social & Environmental Sciences
Study the economic, political, and ecological systems that shape our communities and our planet, from climate policy and sustainable development to political economy and social behavior. You work on real, current questions instead of decades-old case studies, guided by a professor actively researching the same issues today. Your capstone takes whatever shape fits your goals — original research, a policy analysis, or an applied project with real stakeholders.
Design Your Own
Your goals don't have to fit a category we've already named. Work with your advisor to design a concentration around the exact expertise you need — combining disciplines, focusing deeply on a niche most programs ignore, or charting a path that doesn't exist anywhere else. You and your advisor define the outcome first, then build the curriculum and capstone that get you there, one sprint at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What fields of study do you support?
Elton can support research across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and professional disciplines. Elton currently cannot provide physical laboratory space to students, and this limits the ability to conduct research in many of the physical sciences. During your application, we'll confirm whether we have appropriate resources, and advisors in your specific field.
How long does the master's take?
Most candidates finish in about a year. Because you move at your own pace, motivated professionals who dedicate more time often finish faster, and those balancing a full-time job may take longer.
Can I switch concentrations after I start?
Talk to your advisor as early as possible if your goals shift. Many candidates can adjust their focus, especially early in the program; a full concentration change may affect your timeline.
What if my goals don't fit any of the named concentrations?
Build your own. You and your advisor design a concentration around the specific expertise you need, whether that combines fields or focuses deeply on a niche.
Does this master's prepare me for Elton's PhD?
Yes. Elton's Master's satisfies the master's-degree requirement for direct entry into our PhD by Publication, so you can move straight into doctoral research without our integrated master's-credential pathway.
Do I need a bachelor's degree to start?
No. If you do not need a completed bachelor's degree. If you have some college and 2 years of work experience you can enroll in the Elton master's.
