Why a Career MBA

An MBA Built Around Your Next Move, Not Someone Else's Syllabus

Most MBAs assume everyone in the room is chasing the same generic "career advancement," then teach a fixed syllabus and leave you to translate it into your actual next move. The Career MBA does the opposite. Whether your goal is a promotion where you already work or a move into a new function, industry, or role, your curriculum is built around that specific move: the skills it demands, the visibility it requires, and the story that makes it credible.

Instead of a cohort moving through a shared syllabus, your professors and coach work backward from your target role, mapping the gap between where you are and where you want to be, then build the projects, skills, and relationships that close it.

No GMAT required. Start immediately. Full refund within your first 30 days.

Who this is for

Built for People Moving Up or Moving On

The Manager Ready for Director

You are good at your job and ready for more scope. Your team helps you pick the high-leverage projects and build the visibility your next promotion requires.

The Director Aiming for VP or the C-Suite

You need the strategic fluency, executive presence, and track record to be credible at the next level up, not just more of what got you here.

The Industry Switcher

You want to move from the industry you are in to one you actually want to be in. Your team maps which of your skills transfer, closes the gaps, and builds your story for the switch.

The Function Switcher

You are moving from one function to another, like finance to product, operations to strategy, or engineering to management. Your curriculum targets exactly the skills that function demands.

The Corporate-to-Entrepreneur Switcher

You are leaving a traditional career path to build or join something of your own. Your team builds the business fundamentals and the risk tolerance the move requires.

The Professional Returning to the Workforce

You are re-entering the workforce after a career break and need to rebuild your story, your network, and your confidence as fast as possible.

What you master

The Six Domains of Making Your Next Career Move

Your professors teach the same six domains every Elton 1-on-1 MBA student masters — business systems, strategy, technology, marketing, team dynamics, and personal mastery — through the lens of your career goal, plus the disciplines unique to this concentration:

  • Career Strategy & Gap Mapping — working backward from your target role to the exact skills, experience, and relationships you are missing
  • High-Leverage Project Selection — choosing the work inside your current job that builds your case for promotion fastest
  • Executive Presence & Visibility — communicating and showing up the way the next level expects, in writing, in meetings, and in the room
  • Transferable Skill Mapping — translating your experience into the language of a new function or industry
  • Networking & Job Search Strategy — building and using a real network to open doors a resume alone cannot
  • Personal Branding & Storytelling — telling a clear, credible story about who you are becoming, on paper and out loud

A Real MBA, Built Around the Move You Are Actually Making

A career coach gives you advice on your next move. A traditional MBA gives you a generic credential. Elton gives you both, built around your specific move.

A Career Coach

Gives you advice and accountability on your job search or promotion case from one person. You finish with progress on your move and no degree.

A Traditional MBA

Delivers a strong general business foundation as a full-time, on-campus, one- or two-year cohort program costing $45,000-$200,000, with no coursework built around your specific career move.

Elton's Career MBA

Gives you 1-on-1 expert professors, a career or executive coach, and a curriculum built around the exact promotion or career change you are making — for $22,000 total, no GMAT, and a start date whenever you are ready.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About the Career MBA

A Career MBA is an MBA concentration focused on the skills a specific career move actually demands, whether that is earning a promotion where you already work or changing function, industry, or role, rather than a generalist business curriculum.

Both. The Career MBA combines promotion-focused and career-change-focused coursework into one concentration, and your professors and coach build your specific curriculum around whichever move you are making.

No. Some students arrive with a clear target role; others arrive knowing only that they want more scope or a change and work with their coach to define the target before building the plan to reach it.

A career coach gives you advice and accountability on your job search or promotion case. The Career MBA gives you that same coaching plus a team of expert professors who build and teach a full curriculum around your move, and you earn a graduate business credential as you go.

No. We do not require the GMAT, GRE, or any other standardized test for admission to the Career MBA.

No. It is a concentration within Elton's 1-on-1 MBA. You earn the same Graduate Certificate in Business Administration or master's degree, with your coursework and capstone focused on your career move.
